

| The new season got under way at the airport bowl and records were smashed on the way. The scratch singles event was won by Andy Clough (West Yorkshire) with 664 from Al Hopkinson (Gloucestershire) 643 and Lee Franklin in third with 623. The handicap singles was a 1-2 for Lincolnshire with Tom Merrick beating his team mate Ian Foreshaw 721-719. Paul Smith ( Thames Valley) was third with 704 The ladies handicap was won by Wendy Duvall (Thames Valley) with 687 from Ria Brockhurst (Gloucstershire) 669 and Chloe Bruton (Metropolitan) 661. The doubles event saw the home force dominate taking all but 2 awards. The scratch title went to Paul Hunt / Clive Knowles (Met) 1269 from Alan Hanafin / Jon Greengrass (Met) 1241. In third were Brian Higgins / Shaun Adams (Thames Valley) with 1215. The handicap doubles event was won by Dan Meaton / Henry Sycamore (Met) with 1401 from Al Hopkinson / Ria Brockhurst (Gloucestershire) 1397. In third was Jim Studdard / Simon Webb (Met) with 1368. In the team event the West Yorkshire team of Tom Walsh(616), John Greathead(664), Steve Foster(654), Andy Clough(612) blew the opposition away with 2546, but fell one pin short of the Police National Scratch Record of 2547 held by the Metropolitan team. However they did extend their own handicap record to 2747. The Metropolitan team of Alan Hanfin, Jon Greengrass, Paul Hunt, Clive Knowles had to settle for 2nd with 2436. The Met, 2nd team of Jim Kenny, Geoff Mitchell, Chloe Bruton, Tony Perkins finished third with 2273. As no team can win both scratch and handicap sections the team handicap went to the Metropolitan team of Dee Wilson, Julie Eason, Mark Evans, Cliff Cox with 2612 from Sussex team of Roger Smith, Lee Franklin, John Lewis, Mick Forbes with 2596. In third a combined Met / City of London / Thames Valley team of Pat Broom and Geoff Beach (Met), Craig Delves (COL) and Paul Smith (TV) with 2556. The all events was won by John Greathead (West Yorks) with 1907 from Paul Hunt (Met) with 1873 closley followed by his team mate Clive Knowles with 1864. In the female all events Chloe Bruton (Met) smashed a 12 year female record with a score of 1782 to win the all events from Carol Barter (Lancashire) 1591 and Wendy Duval (Thames Valley) 1576. |
